NOTICE TO 5A07 AND ENTIRE BROOKLAND COMMUNITY

WERE YOU AWARE????

1) A 6-9 story, 215-230 apartment building is being proposed for the block surrounding The Col. Brooks Tavern located in 5A07**?

2) The developing team wants to build approximately 215-230 apartment units with ground floor retail and approximately 120-135 below-grade parking spaces? (It is still unknown how many occupants per unit.)

3) The apartment building will be located along Monroe Street, NE between 9th and 10th Streets; down 9th Street NE to Lawrence Street and up back alley of 10th Street, NE to Monroe, Street, NE?

4) The development group seeking approval of this project is called the “901 Monroe Street, LLC.” The 901 Monroe Street members are Jim Steigman, owner of The Colonel Brooks Tavern/Island Jim’s; Bo Menkiti, CEO/The Menkiti Group and Horning Brothers. These three joined together and formed an entity to develop this project?

5) This group intends to file their development application with the DC Zoning Commission ten (10) days from November 5, 2010?

FULL COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT IS NEEDED

Our 5A07 community and all Brookland residents must meet and immediately discuss this very important development. Our entire neighborhood will be impacted. We must discuss what this project will mean to our neighborhood, our property and our quality of life.

Consider impact on: traffic, parking, construction, height of building, number of residents, litter, pollution/environment, green space, congestion, retail, crime, night life, overall character of neighborhood, etc.

PLEASE PLAN TO ATTEND THIS URGENT COMMUNITY MEETING. DO NOT LET YOUR VOICE GO UNHEARD IN THIS PROCESS BRING A NEIGHBOR AND PREPARE TO GET INVOLVED!
